bayviewfuneral.com. Roy died peacefully Monday, July 2, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea. Roy Clifford Carlsen was born on November 13, 1923 in Albert Lea, the son of Carl and Hansina (Jensen) Carlsen.

Roy was a life long resident of Freeborn County except for a stint in the Navy and a few years in California. He owned and operated Carlsen’s Refrigeration for many years servicing milk coolers, freezers, refrigerators, and air conditioners. As a kid, he attended country school, rode his horse, always had a dog, and loved to hunt.

Roy married Lillian Jensen on June 14, 1946. They were very happy in their little house on the Carlsen farm. Soon they had two children, Julie and Steven.

Roy enjoyed the 4-H ball games, quite often being the umpire. They also went fishing at local lakes, bringing home lots of bullheads that he always cleaned, and Lillian fried. The rule was if you caught it or shot it, you cleaned it.

Roy and Lillian always enjoyed dancing. They were members of the square dance club in Albert Lea for many years. They also loved to waltz, polka, and schottische.

They bought an RV and did some traveling. For many years, they drove to Arizona or Texas for an extended vacation. Roy became very good at the scroll saw, making many wall hangings.

It was fun to find them in different homes and places where he had given them as gifts. Those Roy left to remember him are his wife, Lillian; daughter, Julie (Douglas) Wallin; son, Steven (Christine) Carlsen; grandchildren, Mark (Amy) Wallin, DeAnn (Mike) Read, Karen (Gabriel) Beal, Janet (Eric) Sparrow, Brian (Kelli) Wallin, Peter (Katie) Carlsen, Paul (Sara) Carlsen; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Jacob, and Ryan Wallin, Joseph and Justin Read, Calvin (Brooke) and Kristin Beal, Carsen and Hudson Sparrow, Matthew and Lance Carlsen, Ben and Emma Carlsen; great-great-grandson, Roan Beal. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Hansina; sisters, Guida Dahl, Gladys Hunt, and Dagna (Sandy) Langdon; great-grandchildren, William and Kylie Sparrow.
