OBITUARY Russell K Hooper February 5, 1925 – September 17, 2018 Russell Keith Hooper, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, was called to his heavenly rest on September 17, 2018. Russell was born on February 5, 1925, in Ballard, Bates Co. Missouri, to the union of Charles Eugene Hooper, Sr., and Nancy Ola Dell York, the youngest of twelve children. Russell grew up on the family farm in Ballard, helping his dad with the farm chores and with his dad’s custom harvesting business.

After graduating from Ballard High School, Russell was called to serve in the US Navy during WWII, proudly and honorably serving his country for three years aboard the USS Corvus AKA-26. He was award the American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal for his service. Upon leaving the Navy on May 4, 1946, Russell married the love of his life, and high school sweetheart, Margie Laverne Doll of Urich, MO, on August 18, 1946 in Edgerton, KS, at the home of the officiating pastor.

To that union were born two sons and two daughters. Russell and Margie eventually settled down in Kansas City, MO, where he built their house and raised their family in a loving Christian home. As a long time member of Fairmount Christian Church, Russell served in various ministries there and most recently attended Eastgate Christian Church.

Russell worked as a tool and die maker for Armco Steel Union Wire Rope for 37 years, retiring in October 30, 1986. He particularly enjoyed the time he shared with family at the annual Hooper and Doll family reunions and in his later years with visits from his family and friends who would call or stop by. He was proud of his independent lifestyle until the last year or so of life slowed him down considerably.

Russell was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Margie. He is survived by their four children, daughter Cheryl A. Stokes and husband Martie of Blue Springs, MO; son, Phillip K. Hooper and wife Debbie of Independence, MO; daughter, Phyllis Delaine Stone and husband Jan of Independence, MO; son, Douglas W. Hooper and Jennifer O’Neil of Grain Valley, MO; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family. He will be fondly remembered for his love of God, family, friends, a humble heart, honesty and the joy he brought to the lives of many people through his kindness and generosity.

Russell was known for his extensive gardening skills, especially growing outstanding tomatoes which he generously shared with family and friends. He also loved woodworking and making peanut brittle every Christmas which he generously shared with family members and friends.
