OBITUARY Russell Ray Porter October 16, 1950 – September 21, 2018 Mr. Russell Ray Porter passed away peacefully in his home in Stonewall, Louisiana on September 21, 2018 at the age of 67 after a brief, but difficult battle with cancer. Ray was born on October 16, 1950 in Mansfield, Louisiana to Wade Alvin and Billye Sue Porter. Ray met his numerous life-long fraternity friends and his wife at Northwestern State University.

After marrying and welcoming their first child, Matt, Ray and Kathy moved to Shreveport where he spent many years working in the oilfield and delivering pharmaceuticals. His employers knew him as a hard-working, loyal employee with excellent work ethic. Ray is survived by his mother, Billye Sue Belk Porter of Shreveport, LA; wife of 47 year, Kathleen Sue Jones Porter of Stonewall, LA; daughter, Mandi Porter Frye and husband Brett of Minden, LA; grandchildren, Bryce Allen Green, Abbie Elise Green, Brennon “Cade” Frye, and Preston Luke Frye; sister, Sharon Porter Burford of Shreveport, LA; twin brother, Richard Alvin Porter and wife Debbie of Kingwood, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Wade Alvin Porter of Mansfield, LA; and his son, Matthew Ray Porter of Stonewall, LA. Ray has always loved his family, and not just his wife and children. He enjoyed his daily visits with his mother and sitting on the patio with his siblings as they chatted about the past, the present and future.

The stories that have been shared about the twin shenanigans will be missed and never forgotten. Those moments will be remembered and bring smiles to many faces, and Ray’s most popular line of conversation, “I’m just telling you the facts” will forever be etched in our hearts. Though he was a faithful husband, father, brother, son and employee, his true love was the woods.

He was an active hunter that did not need thousands of dollars’ worth of hunting equipment to lure his deer…his favorite stand was a empty five-gallon paint bucket with a lid! He would carry that bucket into the woods and sit on it while the biggest bucks you could ever imagine breathed down his neck. His family still is not sure whether that buck ever existed.

I am sure several of his hunting buddies will be willing to continue his bucket tradition and see if that buck can ever be located. A memorial service for Ray will be held Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:00 AM with a visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Dr. Mike Hawkins of Salem Baptist Church and Brother Toby Shaw will officiate the ceremony at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice’s Staff, Morris & Dickson Company LTD and the numerous friends that have offered prayer, assistance and love during Ray’s battle. They will be forever grateful for the kindness that has been shown to the family in their time of need.
