The following obituary is shared as a courtesy to the family of Ruth Bowers Smith Kennerly as they are life-long residents of Peachland. High Point – Ruth Bowers Smith Kennerly, age 92, of High Point, NC, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019. Ruth was born June 3, 1926 in Peachland, NC, to George and Ada Bowers.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Sechrest Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held following the visitation in the Chapel of Sechrest Funeral Home. Ruth was a lifelong member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. She taught at Union Hill Elementary School and with Guilford County Schools with over 37 years of service.

She grew up playing basketball and loved cheerleading. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, gardening, and had a love for Carolina Beach. Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Jeddy Robert Smith; husband, Hal Kennerly; and brother, Bob Bowers.

She is survived by her son, Jeddy D Smith and wife Martha; daughter, Jane Smith Koontz and husband John; grandchildren, Brad Koontz and wife Lauren, Jeff Koontz and wife Selena, Jeddy Smith and wife Laura, Meredith Foster and husband Blake; great grandchildren, Kate, J.J., Sam, Grace, Mackenzie, Caroline, Lottie, and Lilah; brother, Bill Bowers and wife Gert; sister, Sue Bowers Miller and husband Darrell; sister-in-law, Betty Bowers; as well as several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the Alzheimers Association in loving memory of Ruth Bowers Smith Kennerly or a charity of your choice.
