Obituary for Ruth Cundiff (nee Sterley) Ruth Cundiff (nee Sterley), 94, went home to be with the Lord on April 9, 2018 as the flowers were coming into bloom outside her window, just as she would have loved. Born September 19, 1923 in Akron, OH, Ruth lived a full life and charmed every person she met. Ruth was a force to be reckoned with.

As an active resident of Fairlawn, Ohio, Ruth was Fairlawn Citizen of the Year in 1976, as well as the two-time president of the Fairlawn Women’s Club, five-time president of Fairlawn Garden Club, a member of Toastmistress and Masonic Eastern Star. An avid gardener, (she could grow plants out of a rock! ), Ruth loved all flowers and requested several times over the years that her funeral have lots of bright, beautiful flowers.

Ruth loved any and all card games, but Bridge, Rummy, and Euchre were her favorites, especially with her Eating and Drinking Bridge Club. She loved the weekly meetings and chatting with her friends, all while betting nickels from a little pink pouch that she kept with her at all times. Ruth also loved spending time with her family, including her three children and their partners, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth made it a point to sew a Christmas stocking for all the children in her family, many of which are still hung every Christmas. She also knitted some of the warmest scarves and hats known to man, all of which kept her family warm throughout cold Ohio winters. The family would like to thank all of the caring souls that assisted Ruth during her final years, including Copley Place in Fairlawn, OH; Liberty Residence in Wadsworth, OH, Riverside Place in Midland, MI, and Stone Crest Assisted Living in Freeland, MI.

These angels on Earth made Ruth happy, safe, and comfortable with their care, and the family is eternally thankful for their help. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Ray Cundiff II and her sister, Dorothy Metzger. She is survived by her three children, Beth (Allan Hinkle), Richard III (Judy), Robert (Jeanne); grandchildren, Jessica Ruth (Bradley), Richard IV, Carly, and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Faye Ruth Ramp, sister-in-law, Betty Lee Lappin; niece, Ruthan Metzger (Dan Ranz); nephew, Mike Metzger (Barb); many grand nieces and nephews, and countless friends and loved ones whose lives she touched.

Services will be held 11 a.m. MONDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. , with Rev. Mark Evans officiating.
