Ryan James Norton (July 15th, 1972-February 1st, 2019) Ryan James Norton, aged forty-six, passed away February 1st 2019 in Salt Lake City, UT after he valiantly fought a lifelong battle with complications due to type one diabetes. He was born July 15th 1972 in Salt Lake City to Clair and Janet Norton. Ryan enjoyed his early years in Afton, WY and Heber Valley, UT with his older sister and three younger brothers.
His favorite stories were of their adventures. In 1991 he graduated from Wasatch High School in Heber, UT; it was during these school years that he met Cyndi Kasteller, they became fast friends, writing each other through his mission. Ryan’s greatest joy was in missionary work.
He served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX mission. In 1996 he was sealed to Cyndi Kasteller in the Bountiful, UT temple. They shared twenty-two years together and raised eight wonderful children.
He was a true handy man, a jack of all trades. For Ryan, no project was too big. He loved spending time outdoors with family, but if you asked him what his ideal day would be, it would be spent tossing a football around or in the movie theater with his family and a large bucket of popcorn.
He had an insatiable sweet tooth, loved to barbeque, and firmly believed cayenne pepper could cure almost anything. He was loved so much by his family, friends, and those close to him. He had such a strong spirit about him that will be missed, and our hearts ache not to have him with us, but there is a great peace we feel for him, knowing he is not suffering anymore and knowing he is in the presence of his Savior and the loved ones that have gone before.
We smile to think how liberated he must feel now and that his strong spirit and ambition will no longer be held back by an ailing body. Ryan will be sorely missed amongst his family and friends who loved him so dearly. We would like to thank and acknowledge Ryan’s incredible friend, Lawrence White, who gave him a kidney and sixteen years longer to be with his family and do more of what he loved.
Thank you to the medical professionals and to the transplant teams who provided excellent care over the years. Final thanks to the ward families who have shared their support and friendship over the years. Ryan will be honored this Friday, February 8th 2019 at the Heritage Stake Center, located at 7336 S 3200 W in West Jordan, UT.
There will be a viewing at 9:30 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Following the services, burial dedications will be held at the West Jordan Cemetery.
