Obituary for Sammie Beatrice Baker (Hutcheson) A loving celebration of the life of Sammie Beatrice Hutcheson Baker, age 80. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a member of Spencer Church of Christ. She went to her eternal home on Thursday, September 13, 2018, after an extended illness.

Sammie was born in Spencer, TN to the late Raliegh Darius Hutcheson and Bonnie Nerrel Heady Hutcheson on October 25, 1937. On June 23, 1956, she married Charles Lester Baker, Jr They celebrated 62 years of marriage together.

They weathered the many stormes of her illnesses together making their love grow stronger and their lives inseparable. She was a loving mother to Michael Lester Baker and wife Virginia and John Darius Baker. She took great pride in being a loving grandmother to Whitney (Floyd) Young and Britney Baker (Darron).

Special grandchildren, Kyla Scharmer and Maddison Blaylock. She found her new greatest joy being a great grandmother to Kaegan Shuster. You never had to guess what her greatest joys were because she always had a picture to show or a story to tell about the loves of her life.

Also remaining are her brother, Enloe Kell; sisters: Bonnie F. George and Donna Cardwell, sisters-in-law: Louise Davis and Helen Savage; brothers-in-law: Joe Baker, George Savage, and Louie Daugherty. Many nieces, nephews, and special friends also remain. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Ralph and Bill Hutcheson, sisters: Pheribol Hughes, Minnie Staggs, and infant sister, Verna.

In-laws: Lester and Athyne Baker, brothers-in-law: Noah Hughes, Carl Baker, Ernest Davis, and Glen Baker; sisters-in-law: Gail Daugherty, Virginia Hutcheson, Dee Baker, Mickey Baker and Shorty Baker. We express our deepest gratitude to those special people who made her last moments on this earth easier for the family: Kathy Rogers, Polia Davis, Wally and Wanda Martin, Melissa Baker, mother of her beloved granddaughters, Dee Keel, CRMC, and NHC of Sparta. Her life was a blessing to all the family and friends who knew her.

From one of the ionic little girls eating ice cream in Black Bottom near her daddy’s restaurant, to Salutatorian of her graduating class, she was a loving wife and mother, to a fun, loving Granny and Great Granny. She helped make memories for everyone to last a lifetime. For though she was small she was fierce in all that she did.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 16, 2018, from 2-9pm and again Sunday from 9am to 2pm at Spencer Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2pm Sunday at Spencer Funeral Home with Gene Brock and Bob McCoy officiating. Internment will follow in the Spencer Town Cemetery.
