Obituary for Sandra K. Cox Sandra Kay Cox passed away Sunday 9/16/18 at 6:11 PM at Keller Memorial Hospital after a prolonged illness. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, September 20, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel.
Sandy is survived by her beloved Bill Brazelton lifelong friend, partner, and fiancée, loving sister Chery Ann Schrader, loving brother Randy Cox, her lovable and caring niece Hannah Schrader, sons Scottie and Michael Whitten, and grandson Chaz Whitten, and so very many lifelong friends and colleagues with her work. Sandy was the daughter of James Garner and Virginia Cox of Tuscumbia and Sheffield respectively. Sandy was a teacher and very successful Real Estate agent.
She loved and cared for all peoples. She never met a stranger. Sandy and one of her best friends Vicki Nesmith both were extremely concerned for boys and children getting in trouble with the law.
They searched for community programs to help teens in the Huntsville area and found none. They visited all local and state agencies in Montgomery, law enforcement, and found no programs for the youth. So, they started a new program called “Parents in Partnership”, a parent support group for troubled children.
They started helplines, formed committees to help identify kids with problems, researched what other communities were doing, started “Safe Haven” weekends to help the kids. They armed parents with tools they could use to help their kids in distress. Sandy once got a call from a lady in distress who had to sell her home for financial reasons.
Sandy helped her to stay in her home, bought food for the empty refrigerator, and arranged for needed repairs. She loved her life with Bill, the oceans, boating, and being with her friends. Vicki and Sandy also wrote a book for 1st time home buyers.
They were also asked by the Board of Realtors to provide seminars for the agents which served them well. Sandy loved to learn about the ‘Backstories” in all situations. She always found the good in people and loved to laugh.
I believe I can say in closing that everyone loved Sandy. She will be missed by all her friends and family.
