Obituary for Sandra L. Berry Bennett God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, “Come to me”…. . Sandra L. Berry Bennett, 79, of Owego and formerly of Nichols passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at her home.
Sandy was born on July 9, 1938 in Waverly, NY a daughter of the late David and Alice (Newman) Catlin. Sandy was a graduate of Tioga Central High School class of 1956. She retired from Amphenol following twenty-two years of service.
Sandy enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards, was an avid Yankee fan although her greatest pleasure was being surrounded by her family. She was a devoted member of the West Warren Congregational Church and was currently attending the Tioga Center Baptist Church. In addition she was also a member of the Nichols American Legion Auxiliary and the Owego Moose.
Sandy will be greatly missed by her children: Scott (Linda) Berry of Rome, Pa; Vicki (Elliot) Niman of Chenango Forks, NY; James (Linda) Berry of LeRaysville, Pa; son-in-law: Donald Holubik of Florida; her sister Mary Jane Chapman of Nichols; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Betty and Bob Quick of Nichols; her grandchildren: Amanda Berry, Nicole (Brandon) Dodge, Brian (Cody) Wurst, Jessica (Jeremy) Cole, Matthew Harman, Angela Gaston, Alyssa (Matthew) Dallas, Alexander Niman, Emily Niman; her great grandchildren: Gracie, Mollie, Hudson, Jocelyn, Dagen, and Pierce. Her step children: Rebecca (Sean) Gorman, of Waverly; Alan (Jan) Bennett, of Nichols; Dale (Becky) Bennett of Schnecksville, Pa; Randy (Dee) Bennett of Nichols; Scott (Barbarann) Bennett of Athens, Pa and their families. A nephew David (Darcy) Chapman and special friends Gerry, Becky and friends at the apartment building.
Sandy was welcomed into heaven by her husband’s William Berry, Richard “Dick” Bennett, her daughter Valerie Harman and a nephew Dick Nichols. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday, June 25th from 10 to 12 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of Sandy’s life will follow at 12 pm with Pastor Steve McElwain, of the Tioga Center Baptist Church officiating.
