Obituary for Mrs. SARA ANN HYDE SHRYOC FORT WORTH — Sara Ann Hyde Shryoc passed away Thursday afternoon, November 8, 2018, following a short and swift decline in her health just before her 94th birthday. She was happily married to Kelly Shryoc for 34 years, before his death in 1984. SERVICE: A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel at Trinity Terrace, 1600 Texas Street, followed by a reception in the Chisolm Room.

She will be laid to rest privately in Greenwood Memorial Park. MEMORIALS: Consideration of contributions to The Woman’s Club of Fort Worth or to the charity of your choice, in Sara Ann’s memory, is suggested. Sara Ann was born November 24, 1924, to Dr. X. R. and Kate Dodson Hyde.

She attended Our Lady of Victory and graduated from R.L. Paschal High School before receiving a B.A. in business from Texas Christian University. She was a life-long member of University Christian Church. Fiercely proud of her alma mater, she was a long-time member of TCU-Ex’s.

Her love of flowers and gardening led to her participation in many gardening and botanical organizations. These included the Fort Worth Botanical Society, the Texas Garden Club, the Fort Worth Garden Club, the American Daffodil Society and the Texas Daffodil Society. Sara Ann was instrumental in establishing the Japanese Garden within the Fort Worth Botanical Garden, which she cherished and regularly took her grandsons to visit as they grew up.

Her love of botany also ultimately led her to become a nationally certified judge of flower shows and to develop friends in gardening circles nationwide. She was deeply involved in the Woman’s Club and Junior Woman’s Club of Fort Worth, serving one term as president of the latter. An avid traveler, she visited dozens of countries, recording her adventures in tens of thousands of photographs.

She greatly enjoyed being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and she shared her love of travel with Kirk Jr. and Chase at an early age, taking them on a number of trips by herself, undaunted by the occasional glitch here or there. Looking back on her nearly 94 years, it is easily said that she lived a full, happy, successful and complete life. SURVIVORS: In addition to her son, Kirk Shryoc, Sr. and daughter-in-law Donna Shryoc, Sara Ann is survived by two grandsons, Kirk Shryoc, Jr. and his wife, Allyson of Jupiter Florida, and Chase Shryoc and his wife, Svetha of Aliso Viejo, California; three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Xander and Penelope Shryoc; her sister-in-law, Alice Ann Street and her husband, Bruce of Graham and their family; and the extended family of her deceased brother-in-law, Bob Shryoc of Ft.
