Sarah MacWhorter December 13, 1931 – March 02, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Sarah MacWhorter, 87, of Purcellville, passed away March 2, 2019, at home with her family and friends by her side. Born December 13, 1931, she was the daughter of Flora (Peach) and Franz (Jack) Hannig of Wheeling, WV. She attained her GED while living in Maryland in 1974.

She married the late George Merritt MacWhorter, Jr. February 18, 1957. They lived together in Wheeling for ten years before relocating to Owings Mills, MD and then to Annandale, VA. Sarah is survived by three children: Edmund MacWhorter, Robert MacWhorter, and Christopher MacWhorter.

She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 1989 and her two beloved daughters, Jane, in 2001, and Janelle, in 2013. She is also survived by eight grandchildren (Megan, Shayla, Rachel, Stephen, Patrick, Kevin, Sarah, and Laurie) and five great-grandchildren (Kieron, Skylar, Macie Jane, Seth, and Rylee). Sarah devoted her life to her home and family, proudly creating a wonderful and inviting place for her family and friends.

In Purcellville, she spent many years volunteering and playing cards with close friends at the Carver Center. She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted life-long fan of the Redskins and enjoyed Sunday afternoons suffering through their many losses.

A visitation will be held on March 15, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Hall Funeral Hall, Purcellville, VA and a memorial service will occur Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Purcellville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Blue Ridge Hospice 333 West Cork Street, #405 Winchester, VA 22601 SERVICES Visitation Friday, March 15, 2019 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Hall Funeral Home 140 S. Nursery Ave.
