Benson, NC: Mrs. Sarah Whittington Clayton, age 82, of 602 West Church Street died Saturday, October 6, 2018 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. A funeral service will be 3:00 PM Monday, October 8, 2018 at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Revs.

Joe Glover and Dan Kirk will officiate. Burial will follow in Fellowship Community Cemetery in Angier. Mrs. Clayton was born on August 23, 1936 in Johnston County to the late Lee Thomas and Tunie Ellen Denning Whittington.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robin Clayton. Mrs. Clayton retired as a customer service representative for First Citizens Bank in Benson. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church.

In 2003, Mrs. Clayton was a founder and was the first president of the Widowed Persons’ Association in Benson. Surviving include daughters & son-in-law, Cathy L. Clayton of Smithfield, Susan C. Byrd of Garner, and Abbie C. & Steve Brummett of Sanford; sisters, Sybil Whittington of Coats, Joyce W. Norris of Arizona, and Barbara W. Parrish of Clayton; granddaughters, Lindsay Robin Byrd, Emily Caroline Brummett, and Laura Elizabeth Brummett; and great grandchildren, Holland Brooke Hayes and Cameron Zane Hayes. The family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 2:00PM to 2:45PM Monday prior to the service and other times at the home.
