Scherrie Annette Starnes went to be with her Lord November 13, 2018, peacefully and surrounded by family. Scherrie was born June 1939 in Dallas, Texas. She was raised by Samuel Lee and Dorothy Leola Surles.

Her biological father was Bill Davison. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Jerry Lee Surles. She was a third generation Dallas, Texan, graduating Garland High School in 1957-she was always proud to be an Owl.

Early in life her husband abandoned her and she was left to care for three small children ages two, four, and six without any support. Scherrie was a strong woman who poured her love and devotion into her kids working as many jobs as she could to make ends meet so her children would have a better life. In 1978, she became a follower of Jesus Christ and began a lifelong journey of serving God.

She was kind and generous, often giving strangers money, if they were in need, even though she had so little. Later in life, she worked in Market Research and often used that as an opening to talk with others about their salvation. Over the years, she prayed with numerous strangers and led many of them to Christ.

Scherrie began playing the piano by ear, without lessons, at age five. She loved to play all genre of music, played the piano in church, and wrote several songs. She was also a history buff and enjoyed writing, authoring a fictional novel titled The Kingdom of Texas, A River Called Destiny.

She collected elephants, loved her grandchildren, her dog Dixie Rose, bluebonnets, vanilla Blue Bell ice cream, and Texas. She is survived by her children: Cathy and David MacNeill, James Starnes, and Danny and Mary Kay Starnes, and her grandchildren: Angela, Julie, Zachary, Diana, Andrew, Katie, and Elena. Visitation will be held Friday, November 16, 2018, 1:00 p.m., funeral at 2:00 p.m., Ingram Funeral Home in Quinlan.
