Lewis entered into eternal rest on February 5, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a heroic battle with Pancreatic cancer. Born on September 24, 1958 in New Brunswick, NJ, he was raised and lived in the Edison, NJ area his entire life. He was the son of the late Raymond F. and Adeline R. Lewis (Umbehauer).

Scott enjoyed gardening and landscaping around his home. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was a graduate of John P. Stevens High School and Middle County College.

Scott dedicated many years serving his community in Edison Township in the emergency services field. In 1977 he joined the ranks of the Oak Tree Volunteer Fire Company, where he served as an active firefighter, later climbing the ranks and taking on positions as Lieutenant and Captain. He also became certified as a New Jersey State Fire Police officer.

He also served in many administrative positions such as Recording Secretary; Chairman for Good & Welfare, Awards Dinner Dance and for the Inman-Grove senior citizens Thanksgiving Outreach celebration. Additionally, many Christmas celebrations found Scott enjoying himself as “Santa”, bringing good cheer throughout the North Edison neighborhoods. In addition to obtaining Life Member status with The Oak Tree Volunteer Fire Company Scott also achieved Life member status with the: NJ State and Edison Township Exempt Fireman’s Associations and the NJ State Fireman’s Relief Association.

Scott was also a member of the NJ and Middle County Fire Police Associations. He was also a Life member of the Edison Township Fireman’s Relief Association and had recently proudly served as President. Scott’s service to the community also extended into the emergency medical response field.

Early in his life he was also an active member of the Edison First Aide Squad # 2 serving North Edison for many years and obtaining the rank of Assistant Captain. He was a certified State EMT and had extensive training in extrication and heavy rescue. Scott’s career started with employment by Edison Township as an Emergency Services Dispatcher.

In 1981, he moved on and took a position with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. He advanced through several positions and retired after 32 years of service as a Traffic Control Supervisor in the Operations Department. Scott is survived by his loving wife of 22 years Patricia A. Hart ; his daughter Tara Rosenvinge (Minnella) and her husband Cris of Parlin, NJ; his son, Michael R. Minnella of Brick, NJ; his grandsons Michael Vito, Logan John and Cody Scott and his mother-in-law JoAnn C. Hart of Edison, NJ.

Also surviving are Scott’s two brothers; Raymond F. Lewis of Millersville, MD and Ronald C. Lewis and his wife Linda of Ft Collins, CO; nephews Benett Hoglund and his wife Leslie and their children Lee and Colton of Overland Park, KS and Rylund Lewis of Tulsa, OK; niece’s Alyson Thompson (Lewis) and her husband Dave and their children Braelyn and Reese of Avon, CO; and Dayna Arnstad (Lewis) and her husband T.J. and their children Kenneth & Arrya, of Loveland, CO. Above all, Scott treasured time with his family, always enjoying watching his grandsons excel in sports or theater and attending many shows and events with them and Grammy. Leisure time found Scott pursuing his love for travel and adventure.

Patti was always at his side as they explored remote and exotic destinations worldwide. Scott was the ultimate vacation and travel planner for the family, putting together many memorable trips. For Scott, the world was a place to be traveled, explored, experienced and celebrated.

He loved to meet people, experience different beliefs, thoughts, practices and traditions and especially get to know the culture through local food. Scott enjoyed telling stories of sampling fresh whole sardines in a Souk (market) stall in Morocco or enjoying a traditional local meal prepared at the modest home of Berber Villagers high in the North African Atlas Mountains. Scott never missed a chance for experiencing something different; like getting a straight razor shave from a local barber at an outdoor market in a remote village.

The barber was also the local “Dentist” and would pull teeth when needed! Their travels took them to Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, Canada, and across Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia. Also, numerous trips to many Islands throughout the Caribbean and visits to Belize and Costa Rica.

Together they cruised the Danube River in Germany; the Rhine River through Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands; the Greek Islands and explored the Panama Canal by boat and train. Other visited destinations included: France; Austria; Sweden; Denmark; Norway; Amsterdam, Holland; Istanbul and Kusadasi Turkey; Budapest, Hungary; Prague, Czech Republic; Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains in Morocco; Milan, Venice and Rome Italy; Athens, Greece; Croatia; Lima, Peru; Santiago, Chile; Quito, Ecuador; Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates; Singapore; Bangkok, Thailand; Ho Chi Minh City and Danang, Vietnam; Hong Kong. In recent years Aruba became a favorite beach vacation destination for Scott, Patti and the family.

Many dear friends from Aruba were part of Scott’s extended family abroad. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, followed by a procession to Rosehill Crematory. Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 6 pm.

In lieu of flowers contributions are requested to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of choice in Scott’s name.
