Scott’s Obituary Scott Winfield Newell, 54, of Sutton, MA, passed away on February 15, 2019 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Worcester, MA. He leaves his children, Kenneth and Nicole, both of Crofton, MD. Born in Springfield, MA, son of Robert Newell (Judy) of Goodyear, AZ and Joyce (Colburn) Noonan (Patrick) of Wakefield, RI.

Scott grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ and was active in Scouting earning his Eagle Award just prior to his High School Graduation. He went on to graduate from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) with a degree in Marine Mechanical Engineering. Scott was an accomplished competitive swimmer throughout high school and college.

Scott went to work for the Department of Defense – Navy and spent his career working on the design of Naval Aircraft Carriers. Scott eventually retired from Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) as the Deputy Ships Design Manager for the Makin Island (LHD8). Over the course of his career, Scott resided in Louisiana, just outside New Orleans, and Mississippi, before settling for number of years in Crofton, MD.

Scott was fortunate to have traveled the world where he was able to enjoy his favorite past times: skiing, golfing and reading. After retiring, Scott moved back to the New England area but remained a staunch supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles football team. Besides his children and parents, Scott leaves behind; his sister, Christine Newell-Loyko, brother-in-law, Joel Loyko and niece, Faith Loyko of Sutton, MA; nephew, Keith Loyko (Brittany) and great-nephew, Eli of Webster, MA; step brothers, Kyle Laudenslager (Joanne) and his son, Dustin of UT Mark Noonan (Kathie) of PA, and Michael Noonan of NJ; step-sister Michelle Valentino (Anthony) of NJ and many caring aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 10:00 am in St. Peters by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central St, Narragansett, RI. Burial will follow in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston, RI. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 4-7pm, in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield, RI.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Scotts name may be made to Garden State Council Boy Scouts of America, 693 Rancocas Road, Westampton, NJ, 08060.
