Sharon Kay Blackwood September 08, 1943 – February 12, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Sharon Longhofer Blackwood, a lifetime resident of Shattuck, expired on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, after a lengthy illness that kept her bedridden for eight months. Sharon was born in Higgins, Texas on September 8, 1943. Despite periodic absences for education, she always returned to Shattuck.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Longhofer; her brother, Jim; and two spouses, Don Brittain and Floyd Blackwood. Survivors include her brother, Wayne, and his spouse, Carolyn, of Norman, Oklahoma; two nieces; three nephews’ and a host of cousins and friends. After attending Shattuck Public Schools for eleven years, Sharon’s high school education was completed in 1961 at the academy affiliated with Southwestern Junior College.

College training was obtained at Southwestern Junior College, Union College, and Southern Missionary College. Sharon’s occupational opportunities included ranching and a variety of clerical and accounting responsibilities. She retired from the Shattuck Public Schools upon concluding eleven years of service as Cafeteria Administrator.

Her greatest joy was sharing smiles with children and colleagues. She ended her employment at age 74 due to health issues. Service with the Shattuck Chamber of Commerce and the Newman Memorial Hospital Authority Board were among Sharon’s community contributions.

Sharon was defined by her grit and refulness. Over the years she provided care for her ailing mother, husband Floyd, and several other individuals. She dealt with the unfortunate issues that confront us all.

Her reliance on her Christian faith enabled her to deal with challenges and hardships that ensued during her illness and throughout her lifetime. She prized her close friends and colleagues. Memorials may be made to the Shattuck Elementary School in care of Shaw Funeral Home, P.O. Box 276, Vici, OK 73859.
