OBITUARY Shirley C. Reynolds October 18, 1928 – July 17, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Shirley C. Reynolds was born to Freda and George Cook on October 18, 1928. After living a full life with her family and many friends, she passed away on July 17, 2018 with her three children at her side. Shirley was born and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Following graduation from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, with a degree in Elementary Education, she moved to St. Clair Township near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to teach second grade. It was there she met her ‘husband to be’ Bill, and was soon married. She became an Air Force wife, living in Alaska and later Dover, Delaware.

After their service days, they moved to Mount Lebanon near Pittsburgh where Bill was an airline pilot with United Airlines. During her 12 years in Mt Lebanon she raised her three children and enjoyed time with relatives, friends, at the Methodist Church and playing social bridge. United Airlines transferred Bill to New York, and she and her family moved to Westport, Connecticut where they would live for the next 40 years.

In Westport, she was active in many organizations including the United Methodist Church, the Westport Women’s Club, and the Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO). She continued playing bridge, coordinated and participated in international travel with friends, went on sailing excursions, went to many Penn State Football games and enjoyed going to the local theaters. During Shirley’s years in Westport she enjoyed several home businesses.

She loved sewing and became a representative selling Leiter Design fabrics, she was a consultant for Beauty for All Seasons, Karla Jordan Jewelry and Doncaster Women’s Clothing. In 2008, Bill and Shirley relocated to the Carolina Preserve in Cary, North Carolina. They enjoyed making new friends, traveling and she enjoyed her time with the local PEO chapter.

Her husband passed away in 2015, and shortly thereafter she moved to the Preston Pointe community in Morrisville, NC. Shirley loved and cared for her family: her son Tom and his wife Brenda, son Bruce, his wife Susie and granddaughters Madelyn and Jocelyn, and daughter Susan, her husband Tom Wall and grandchildren Casey, Heidi, Courtney, Mike, great-granddaughter Kelsey, Kelly and Ryan and great-granddaughter Cecelia. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie and 6 nieces and nephews.

There will be two celebrations of Shirley’s life. The first will be a reception at the Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex NC on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 1-3 PM and the second, at the United Methodist Church of Westport, 49 Weston Road, Westport in October 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the United Methodist Church of Westport, 49 Weston Road, Westport, CT 06880.
