Shirley Dean Strickland Lowery, 77, of Youngsville, passed away on September 22, 2018. A native of Franklin County, she was born to Needham Gulley and Lillian Strickland on July 13, 1941. She taught for 30 years for the state of North Carolina, spending the majority of her career at Wilton Elementary School.

Mrs. Lowery loved children and teaching them. After retiring in 1995, she spent her retirement caring for her family. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Sept.

25th at the Youngsville Cemetery at 11 a.m. with Reverend Johnny Holmes officiating. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service at the cemetery. Mrs. Lowery is survived by her daughter, Amy (Jeff), her favorite person and granddaughter, Abigail; a special niece, Angela Perry; and brother-in-law Malcolm Perry, all of Youngsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Lowery; a daughter, Dilly Canden; two sisters, Rose Perry and Betty Sue Hill; and a brother, Wilbur Strickland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Granville Education Foundation, P.O. Box 2056, 112 Wall Street, Oxford, NC 27565 .
