Shirley’s Obituary Shirley passed into eternal glory with Jesus January 13th surrounded by her loving family. Born July 22, 1921 in Mayville, ND, she graduated salutatorian of her high school class, attended NDSU where she was awarded the prestigious Danforth Scholarship. There she met her husband Ray and they married in 1944.

Their first son James was born in Boston. Within a year they moved to St. Louis Park, MN where daughter Jan was born. She was followed by twin boys Peter and Paul.

At that time Shirley was the mother of four children under the age of four. In 1955 they moved to Golden Valley where last son Steve was born. Very active at Calvary Lutheran Church, Shirley was a long time co-leader of their discipleship program.

She volunteered as a chaplain at North Memorial Hospital and at Community Emergency Service for many years. She and Ray were active in Campus Crusade for Christ and World Mission Prayer League. Strong supporters of international Christian missions, Shirley visited missions in India and Bangladesh when she was 65.

A loving, devoted wife and mother; Shirley was dearly loved in return. Her world was severely stricken in 1982 with the sudden death of Ray, husband of 38 years. She attributed her victorious life to her faith, family and friends.

Nothing was more important to Shirley than her faith in Jesus Christ, which motivated and directed her life of service. She said “All I do is for the glory of God”. She was a devout prayer warrior, had the gift of hospitality, and befriended many people within and outside the church.

In them her legacy lives on. She is predeceased by loving parents, Henry and Emma Soliah, brother, Milton and sister Eleanor, (her lifelong friend who only died last year at 102 years) and her husband Ray. Her children are James (Sheila) in Oak Ridge, TN, Jan of Minneapolis, Peter of Minneapolis, Paul of Alcalde, NM, and Steve (Cheryl) of Plymouth.

Her grandchildren are Tess (Drew) Lefmann, Julia (Percival) Matthews, Florence (Bryan) Harris, James Michel, Jr., Amy (Max) Foster, Ben (Jill) Michel, Heidi (Kojo) Addo and Kalie Michel. She also has 6 great-grandchildren. Her celebration of life will be at 11 am on Wednesday, January 16th at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Rd, Golden Valley, with visitation at 10 AM.

Lunch will be served afterwards. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the World Mission Prayer League, 232 Clifton Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403 or Calvary Lutheran Church.
