SHIRLEY CAMPO LONDREGAN SHIRLEY CAMPO LONDREGAN, daughter of the late Italo “Leto” Campo and Angeline Pisapia Campo and widow of Francis T. Londregan, passed of natural causes on January 3, 2019 at the age of 83. Shirley was born June 24, 1935 in New London, Connecticut. She attended Harbor Elementary School and graduated from Williams Memorial Institute in 1953.
She went on to receive a degree in Education from Framingham State Teachers College. Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Francis T. Londregan on June 22, 1957. They were married for 51 years until his passing in 2008.
She was a loving mother of five. While raising five children was a full time job in and of itself, Shirley gave of herself to help the mentally challenged and the elderly. Shirley was the First Lady of New London when Frank served as Mayor.
Once an empty nester, Shirley became a tour guide, a position she most enjoyed as it took her around the world. Shirley enjoyed tennis, gardening, and vacations with the family, especially trips to Walt Disney World with their grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed her many years skiing in Vermont as a member of the Thames Ski Club where she and Frank made many lifetime friends.
Shirley is survived by her children, Stephen Londregan and his wife, Donna, of Oxford, Massachusetts, Mary Beth Zichelli and her husband, Frank, of South Orange, New Jersey, Timothy Londregan and his wife, Dawn, of New London, Connecticut, Michael Londregan and his wife, Elizabeth, of Chantilly, Virginia, and Christopher Londregan, and his wife, Melissa, of Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Shirley is also survived by her: brother Richard Campo and his wife, Eleanor of Waterford; Her brother-in-law Thomas Londregan and his wife, Kathleen, of New London; Sixteen grandchildren and five great grand children. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Lawrence & Memorial Joslin Diabetes Center.
The Joslin Diabetes Center is the world leader in diabetes treatment, education, and research and provided Shirley comprehensive diabetes management. The family of Shirley Campo Londregan thanks the selflessness of those who cared for Shirley while residing at Atria and most recently at Fairview. Shirley’s long time aid and family friend, Linda Annibalini, will forever be remembered for her loving care of both Frank and Shirley over the past 11 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church on Monday, January 7, 2018 at 11 A.M., and she will be entombed in St. Mary Mausoleum. There will be a calling hour from 9:30 to 10:30 Monday morning at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave. , New London.
