Obituary for Sidney “Sid” Pennington Sidney Franklin Pennington passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at his home with his loving wife and youngest daughter. He was born April 7, 1942, in Cleveland, OH, to parents Blanche Kate Ross Pennington and Lewis James Pennington. Sid is the beloved husband of Marina Louise Pennington for 20 years of marriage.

Sid as he called himself was a highly decorated Sergeant Major in the United States Army serving 30 years with multiple commendations: Legion of Merit, Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm and the Bronze Star. From 1972 until 1974 Sid served as the First Noncommissioned Officer and African American to serve with the British Army Royal Corps, the Queens Army not the Gurkhas. He is also survived by his remaining sisters, Lois Haliburton and Thelma Whittington; daughters, Cassandra, Chinue, Jamila and Asha; grandchildren, Damion, Gillan and Shavonte Baccus, and Jacquelyn and Jackson Williams; and great-grandchildren, Damion Jr., Kannon, Kyle and Khloe Baccus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Alice, Bernice, Eleanor, Theresa, Carl, Joseph, Lawrence, Louis James Jr, and Rufus. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd, at Proko Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon.

Interment will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to National Association for Black Veterans would be appreciated by the family.
