Obituary for SMSgt. Frank L. Denny, Jr., Ret. USAF SMSgt.

Frank L. Denny, Jr., Retired USAF, age 79, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 here in Del Rio. He was born on August 10, 1939 in Ironton, OH. Frank attended school in Ironton, Ohio.

He quit the Rock Hill High School and joined the military at the young age of 17. Frank proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. After 20 years of service, he retired from the United States Air Force as Fire Chief in 1979; he then continued and retired from his second career in Civil Service in 1995.

He was known to many as Chief Denny. Frank was active in various local and national organizations. Frank was a proud Master Mason and member of the Val Verde Lodge #646.

He was also a member of the Del Rio Elks Lodge #837. He served as a Supervisory Committee member and was on the Board of Directors for the Border Federal Credit Union for 15 years. He was active in the Pee Wee Football League and the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce.

He had just started serving on the Board of Directors at the Del Rio News-Herald. Frank especially loved being the representative for the Welcome Wagon and greeting the new Del Rio residents into our community. Frank enjoyed watching sports, playing golf, and participating in the local annual Texas Hold’Em tournament to support the troops.

However, his true calling was helping people and rescuing animals. There are many stories of his never ending kindness & generosity. Frank truly accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior and was baptized at First Christian Church.

Family members left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Rose of Del Rio; daughter, Wendy Rocke and husband Duane Rocke of Cumming, GA; sons, Daniel Roach and wife Amanda Roach of Crystal Lake, IL, and Allen Roach of Albuquerque, NM; siblings: Dorothy Thomas of Del Rio, Cornelius Lawson and wife Donna Lawson of Ironton, Linda Wright-Burns and husband John Burns of Del Rio, and Mike Lawson of Seattle, WA; grandchildren: Terry Jantz, Madison Jantz, April Roach, Jordan Rocke, Danielle Rocke, and Gabrielle Rocke; Frank is also survived by his nieces/nephews: Debbie Thomas, James Thomas, Neal Wright, and many others. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 t 9 p.m. in the Trinity Chapel of Devotion. The Masonic Funeral Ritual will begin at 7 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, September 21, 2018 at 10 a.m. at First Christian Church, located at 2101 N. Main St. in Del Rio.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, located in San Antonio, Texas. Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force.
