Obituary for Stella Louise Koger Stella Louise Alverson Koger was born in Jenny Lind, Arkansas September 15, 1931 to Joseph and Lola (Whittingslow) Alverson. She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Gerald Herman Koger and siblings, Joan Alverson Johnson, Thomas Alverson and Gary Alverson. The daughter of a coal miner she spent most of her childhood in Tazwell, Virginia.

During childhood Stella was given the nickname “Honey” because of her sweet nature, and this name followed her through to her adulthood. In her early 20’s she relocated to San Antonio with her sister Joan and lived in Olmos Park, Monte Vista, and King William. She worked at the San Antonio Express Newspaper and then as a stewardess for a charter airline company before marring G.H. Jerry Koger at the age of 28.

In addition to being involved in the Model A car club that was founded by her husband she volunteered for The American Heart Association. An avid baker, treats were always available, and many of her recipes have been shared among friends and family. Above all Stella was a devoted mother encouraging all of her children to follow their passions.

Special mention to her daughter-in-law Terry Koger for her love and care and her niece Lana Alverson Faber, daughter of her brother Tom, who always remained close. Many thanks to Jaime of Heart to Heart Hospice for providing so much loving care to Stella during this past year. Special thanks to the entire staff at The Memory Care Unit at The Forum at Lincoln Heights.

She is survived by her children, Kevin M. Koger, Corey B. Koger and Kelly Jo Koger Martinez. Stepson, Geary Koger Garton. Grandchildren, Kody, Konnor, Cameron, Ethan and Isaac.
