OBITUARY Stephen R. Bilbo February 19, 1932 – December 2, 2018 Bilbo, Stephen – Age 86, of Scituate, passed away December 2, 2018 after a long illness. He was a son of the late John and Alice Bilbo of Dorchester. Loving father of Stephen Bilbo and his wife Mary Anne of North Scituate, RI, Cynthia Combes and her husband George of Londonderry, NH, Laura Raftery and her husband Kevin of Rockland, MA and Matthew Bilbo of Duxbury, MA.

Cherished grandfather of Daniel, Sean, Edward, Brian, Bridget, Erin, Mitchell, Andrew, and Connor as well as great-grandfather to Jett, Dylan and Leslie. Stephen will be lovingly remembered by his long time companion Rita MacNeil. He is survived by his sister Alice Fletcher of FL, and was predeceased by brothers John, Thomas, and Paul.

Stephen proudly served in the United States Air Force for 5 years. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked briefly with the New England Telephone Company. He was an entrepreneur his whole life.

He and his brother built custom homes throughout the South Shore for the next 20 years. In the mid-70’s into the 80’s, Stephen opened and ran The Tinkers Dam restaurant in Pembroke. Later in life, he opened Bilbo’s Bargain Barn, in Pembroke.

He always had the kind of energy and spirit typical of a much younger man. Stephen had an engaging personality, . and the remarkable ability to start a conversation with anyone he met.

He knew someone practically everywhere. Stephen was a masterful storyteller, and loved telling people about his adventures growing up in Dorchester, his days in the Air Force, and his travels around the country and the world. Above all else, Stephen had a profound love for his family.

He cared deeply for them, and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was always moving, always on the go, and never was one to rest, give up, or call it quits… until the very end. The many people whose lives he touched along the way will remember and miss him always.

, A visitation will take place on Thursday December 6, 2018 from 10-12pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A memorial service will follow at 12pm from the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Fr.
