Steve Gilpin, 63, of Carmi passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Saturday, July 28, 2018. Steve was born in Kennett, MO on November 11, 1954. He faithfully served his country during Vietnam in the United States Army.

Steve went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier before taking an early retirement due to an injury. He took great pride in his work and always arrived at work with his pressed uniform and shined shoes. Steve was a Christian by Baptist faith and had a love of animals.

Steve is survived by his wife and soulmate of 41 years, Delite; his fur babies, Cuddles, Sissy, and Gizzy; sister-in-law, Tammie Seat (his bub); sisters, Mary (Kenny) Johnson, Barb (Joe) Sweet; brothers, Bill (Diane) Gilpin, John (Virginia) Gilpin and Tommy Gilpin; favorite niece, Dee Ann Voupel, whom he loved like a daughter; brothers-in-law, Dwight (Paula) Wooters, Michael (Brenda) Wooters and many nieces; and good friends, Jo Ann and David Rich, Jill Files, Sheryl Woodham and their wonderful neighbors. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rene and son, Dakota; his father, Jess; Jeff Woodham, to whom was like a brother; brother, Bill Uelman whom he loved dearly; and his fur babies. Funeral services for Steve Gilpin, 63, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi followed by full military rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m until 3:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Melrose Cemetery in Carmi. Memorials may be made in Steve’s memory to The Guardian Center and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
