Obituary for Sue Granade Allie Sue Piper Granade passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 after a long and eventful life. A lifelong resident of Conyers, GA, she was born February 21,1927, the third of four children of the late Idus P. Piper, Sr and Willie Sue Ellis Piper. She was a precocious, studious child who enjoyed the latest fashions and trends.
She graduated Conyers High School as class valedictorian in 1944 and began her working career at USF and G insurance company in Atlanta. In October 1945, her high school sweetheart, Marion Granade, received a three-day pass, negotiated his way home and asked her to marry him. They wed that evening, October 19,1945, and they celebrated 69 years of a loving, caring and committed marriage prior to his passing in 2014.
Sue worked in several office positions before settling on banking. She served in a Customer Service role at SunTrust Bank for 20 years before retiring early to enjoy her grandchildren and to travel. Sue was always ready to go and traveled extensively in the US including Alaska and Hawaii and enjoyed cruising and trips to Europe with family and friends.
She was very active in her church life at Rockdale Baptist Church and later at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Buckhead. Sues family connection to Coca Cola (her father and grandfather) inspired her interest in collecting a variety of Coke memorabilia that spanned most of her adult life. Sue was dedicated to family and spent much of her retirement time with her grandchildren.
She greatly enjoyed entertaining and was always ready for the next holiday celebration with unique decor and activities. She had a sharp mind and was often seen reading the latest best seller selections. She was an avid Auburn football fan often attending games with family members.
Possessing a subtle sense of humor, her wit filled any setting with laughter and high spirits. Sue truly enjoyed people and exemplified this in her care and compassion for others throughout life. Most of all, she lived life joyfully and with a positive attitude, was always there when needed and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Granade is survived by her son, Tim Granade, Conyers; grandchildren, Rachel Granade, Atlanta, Stephanie Granade and John Randolph, NY, NY, Mitchell Granade, Charlottesville, VA; sister Janet Stacks, Montgomery, AL, nieces and nephews.
