Obituary for Susan Allen Susan Hale Allen, age 78, of Worthington passed away November 12, 2018 at Riverside Hospital. Preceded in death by her husband of nearly fifty years, Richard L. Allen and her parents Clark and Meta Hale. Survived by children Andrew (Jackie) Allen of LaQuinta, California, Bradley Allen of Powell, OH, Jennifer (Brian) Pence of Allen, TX, and 7 grandchildren.
Born in Syracuse, NY, her family relocated to Galion, Ohio where she graduated High School in 1958. She went on to attend Ohio University where she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in education and moved to Columbus to begin her career as a teacher. While teaching in Columbus schools she met her husband, Richard ‘Dick’ Allen and they settled into a home in Worthington.
Susan stopped teaching to stay home with her children and was an active volunteer for their many activities. She found much joy in her second round of teaching when she began working at Evening Street Elementary in Worthington. A beloved teacher of both students and parents alike, she finished her teaching career at Evening Street yet continued to volunteer in the classroom for the Salem School in Columbus.
An active member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday school, served on numerous committees and as an elder. Over the years, she enjoyed her monthly card-club gatherings and the endless nights out with the Friday Night crew. In recent years she was happiest when visiting her children and grandchildren and being surrounded by her life-long friends.
She was a beloved ‘Gammy’ to Aaron (13), Alex (11), Brady (17), Cooper (13), Madeline (19), Sophia (16) and Owen (12). The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:30-7:30 PM at the Worthington Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home at 515 High Street. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Susan Allen will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 16, 2018 at The Worthington Presbyterian Church with a reception immediately following the service.
