Wood, Susan 8/29/1957 – 5/25/2019 Spring Lake, MI Dr. Susan Marie Wood (Lukkari) 61, of Spring Lake, Michigan, died peacefully at home on Saturday, May 25, 2019, after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Laura Wood. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Gary Michael Lukkari, and her cherished children, Laura Aili Lukkari, Erik Wood Lukkari, and Braeden Michael Lukkari; her sister Rebecca Wood Klemm (Scott), and three nieces, Allison, Lindsay, and Emily Klemm.

Dr. Wood was born on August 29, 1957, and grew up in Trenton, Michigan. She received a BA from Albion College where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Detroit, where she met her husband Gary.

A love of the lakeshore brought them to West Michigan where they began their careers in dentistry. Sue was a member of the American Dental Association and the Michigan Dental Association. She was a member of the women’s service club, Zonta, for many years.

She was a voracious reader and enjoyed participation in her book club. Dr. Wood and her family enjoyed water sports and she often said that living in West Michigan made her feel like the whole summer was a vacation. In the winter, the family loved to ski.

An excellent cook, Sue loved to entertain her family and friends. Gardening was a passion, and anyone who saw her house in the summer couldn’t help but admire the floral majesty she created. Sue will be remembered as an incredibly intelligent person, with a beautiful smile and heartwarming laugh.

She never said an unkind word to others, and had a way of turning a phrase that made her friends laugh. Her family benefited from her endless love and support and will miss her dearly. VISITATION with the family will begin at 10:00 AM with a MEMORIAL SERVICE following at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Lakeshore Fellowship Church, 16790 Van Wagoner Rd, Spring Lake, MI 49456.

Immediately following the service, friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at an open house at the family home. The family would like to thank Shauna, Shawanda, Comfort Keepers, and Hospice for their care. Contributions in her memory may be made to the MSA Coalition, www.
