Alfred Cornell VerBerkmoes, age 91, of Spring Lake, MI went to meet his Lord, Saturday morning, May 25, 2019 at a local assisted living. He was born on July 12, 1927 to Joseph and Gertrude (Voogt) VerBerkmoes in Grand Haven, MI. He married Jacquelyn Koats before she passed away in August of 1997.

He then married Dorothy (Sterzer) Young on April 7, 2001 in Grand Haven. Alfred proudly served his country in the United States Navy going to Shoemaker, CA and boarding Aircraft Carrier USS Kwajalein serving in Hawaii, New Caledonia and Japan during WWII. He was employed by Anderson Bolling for 20 years and retired from Burnside Manufacturing as a tool and die maker, after 20 years of employment.

Al was a member of Second Reformed Church and was a life time member of Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post #28. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, bowling, outdoor activities and watching TV, especially the Detroit Tigers. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 18 years; daughters, Susan (Dave) Hirdes of Spring Lake, Linda VerBerkmoes of Spring Lake, David (Christopher Wheaton) VerBerkmoes of Spring Lake, Alan (Marie) VerBerkmoes of Livermore, CA.

, and Scott (Jenny) VerBerkmoes of Castle Rock, CO; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence and Jerry VerBerkmoes of Grand Haven; sisters-in-law, Jane VerkBerkmoes of Florida and Joan VerBerkmoes of Grand Haven. Alfred was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and Gary and sister, Jacoba Rowell. Also step-family included are Karen Leatherman, Roberta (Pat) Twa, Kathleen (Ron) Lawson and Lisa Young; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A FUNERAL SERVICE and military rites will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, May 31 2019 at Second Reformed Church, (1000 Waverly Ave. ) with Rev. Dan Eisnor officiating.

VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at church. MEMORIALS may be directed to Second Reformed Church. Burial will take place at Lakeshore Cemetery.
