Mr. Jack Duane Robinson passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2019, just three weeks shy of his 97th birthday. He was surrounded by his wife and other family members. Jack was born in Ferrysburg, MI on June 13, 1922 to Walter and Margaret (Bolthouse) Robinson.
He graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1941 and shortly after that met his future wife Aldona “Dona” Krusinsky. On February 15, 2019 Jack and Dona celebrated 72 years of marriage. On September 22, 1942 Jack enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served in Italy and North Africa during WWII.
Jack was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 28. Jack worked most of his life in the marine and construction industry. He was employed by Brown Brothers Construction and in 1958 was superintendent of the Grand Haven Bascule Bridge Project.
In 1964 Jack, along with business partners Kurt Wipperfurth and Donald Prince, started C-Way Construction Company. At the time of his retirement they had offices in Michigan and Florida. Jack was a charter member of the City of Ferrysburg Council from 1963 – 1971, also serving as mayor pro-tem.
He also served on the Ferrysburg School Board of Education. Jack was an avid fisherman and sports lover. He played on local baseball teams, bowling leagues, and skied as often as he could well into his 80’s.
He also taught his grandchildren to snow ski and play golf. Jack’s greatest passion was golf, and he could be found out on the course five days a week until the age of 94. Jack is survived by his wife, Dona; their three children: Rix (Karen) Robinson, Patricia (Joseph) Burns and Jack (Linda) Robinson; his six grandchildren: Keely Burns, Ryan (Jessica) Burns, Nathan (Marianna) Burns, Tim (Nicole) Burns, Corey Burns and Kara Robinson; five great-grandchildren: Kyra, Liam, Ava, Sloan and Chloe, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carl. The family would like to thank the staff at Chestnut Fields for the wonderful care and support they provided Jack and their family. They would also like to thank Tami and Lisa of Hospice for the care and compassion given to all of them.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 AM Friday, May 24, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev David Gross and Rev. Anthony Vainavicz presiding. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday, May 23, 2019 at The Spring Lake Chapel (213 E. Savidge) and a rosary will take place at 7:30 PM.
