Inez J. Vollmer of Spring Lake, 86, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2019. She was born in Grand Haven on December 13, 1932, she married and lived in Spring Lake raising her four sons. In addition to being a fulltime wife and homemaker she also worked full time for 23 years as the Production Supervisor and Head Cook in the Spring Lake Public Schools.

Inez loved her family and found joy in spoiling her grandchildren. She loved all forms of competition whether it was following her sons’ sports or beating her grandchildren at board games. Her voice will always echo “sorry!

” if she beat you. In particular she loved the Detroit Tigers and Pistons. The shores of Lake Michigan will miss her many day jaunts.

She loved spending days on end with family and friends on the beach. Her passion for cooking poured out as she catered meals for numerous charities, school, church, and Lloyds Bayou Residence Apartments events. Her sharp mind allowed these events to come together without a hitch.

Her many special desserts will be missed by all. She was a voracious reader and loved taking on all crossword puzzle challenges. She was an active member of First Reformed Church (Harvest Bible Chapel) a previous Cub Scout Den Mother for all four boys, and an active Spring Lake Booster.

Preceded in death by her mother, Josephine (Wagenmaker) Swartz, father, Harry Swartz, brother, Jack (Jeune) Swartz, sister, Ruth (Harry) Carlson, her son, Gerald Vollmer Jr., and her husband of 52 years, Gerald Verne Vollmer. Survived by sons: Tom (Kelly) of Whitehouse, OH, David (Laura) of Grand Haven, and Dan (Penny) Vollmer of Lexington Park, MD, daughter-in-law, Kathy A. Vollmer; grandchildren, Alvy (Andrea) Vollmer, Christopher (Sara) Vollmer, Abby (Mike) Kowaczyk, Chad (Crystal) Vollmer, Carrie (Mike) Dykstra, Merredith (Tim) Flores, Travis Vollmer, Marshall (Kristin) Sanders, Sarah (Zack) Magilke, Ronald Sanders; and eighteen great- grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol (Dick) Rutherford, many special nephews and nieces and special friends: Violet and Gene VanStrate, Delores and Steve Gulis and Jane Gleason. She enjoyed her time living at Lloyds Bayou Sr. Apartments and most recently at Elizabeth Scott Community in Maumee, OH.

She made many new great friends at both locations. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 21, 2019 at The VanZantwick Chapel (620 Washington Ave). Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
