Mrs. Lila Dobberstein, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2019. She was born on August 26, 1931 to Edward and Carrie (Russell) Young in Muskegon. A lifelong resident of the area, Lila married Donald Dobberstein in 1955, and he preceded her in death in 2013.

Don and Lila raised four children. As her children were growing, she loved volunteering as a room mother at school, as well as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. She was an avid reader and liked to go to the casinos and play bingo.

Don and Lila spent their winters in Wauchula, Fla. , surrounded by a tight-knit community of friends and family. Most of all, Lila cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

Lila is survived by her children Richard Dobberstein, Ronald Dobberstein, Kari (David) Martin and Julie (Tim) Reid; grandchildren Amber and Ashley Dobberstein, Ryan, Amanda and Holly Martin, Andrew Reid and Jennifer (Zach) Salander; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Agnes, Ethel, Marion and Edward. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 1PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 49444, 231-798-1100.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, May 21 from 6-8PM. Memorial contributions in Lila’s name may be directed to Harbor Hospice Foundation. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.
