Chassell Sylvia L. Gagnon of Chassell passed away on February 19, 2019, at the Franklin House of Portage Pointe. Sylvia was born Sylvia Lydia Maki on August 11, 1926, in Trimountain, Michigan to John K. and Lydia (Lundi) Maki. In 1944 Sylvia graduated from Jeffers H.S. and then in 1946 from the Upper Peninsula Beauty Academy in Marquette.

She worked as a hairdresser in Marquette, Houghton, South Range and later had her own beauty salon in her home for over 50 years. Sylvia married John J. Gagnon at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Chassell on August 14, 1948. He passed away in 2007 after 59 years of marriage.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, son Stephen, and brother Eino Maki. She is survived by her son Michael (Linda) Gagnon, grandsons Jason (Heather) Gagnon and Jeremy (Missy) Gagnon. Three great-grandchildren, Braden, Cameron, and Khloe, sister-in-law Eleanor Maki, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She leaves behind her good friends Marilyn Flannigan and Kris Bosley, almost a daughter Garnet Destrampe, and Gabby Bosley whom she considered one of her grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, contributions can be made to the GBS/CIDP Foundation International, 375 East Elm Street, Conshohocken, PA.
