Funeral service for Ted W. Winsett, age 72, of Decatur, will be Saturday, September 29, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Sempsrott officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service.

Mr. Winsett, who died Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Huntsville Hospital, was born July 28, 1946, in Hartselle, to Horace Winsett and Mazie Quattlebaum Winsett. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Walt and Steve. Ted was born near Massey, his family moved to southern Ohio in the early 1950’s.

He graduated from Miamisburg High School in 1964. He was a 4-year letterman for the Viking football team. Always an humble man, he was loved by his classmates.

He met his wife of 53 years at the First Baptist Church of Miamisburg in 1957, and they married in 1965, following graduation. In 1966, he moved back to the South to attend Plumbers and Steamfitters Apprentice School. He certified in 1971, and joined Local #377 in Huntsville.

After an illness and injuries caused an early retirement in 1980, he worked for Lowe’s in his later years as the “plumbing pro”. He also forged many great friendships there, as well as his union brothers. Because of his love for baseball and football, he continued to play as an adult and became a Youth League coach.

He mentored many Hartselle and Falkville area young people who continued to reach out to him over the years. He felt a calling into the counseling ministry in the early 1990’s and attended Shoals Bible Institute in Florence, AL, where he graduated with a B.S. in Christian Counseling and a Masters Degree in Theology. He expanded that ministry in 1996, when he was ordained and began a 20-year career as Pastor of Believers Assembly.

Ted was a kind and mild-tempered man who was loved by all who knew him, and had a gift to make everyone feel special. He was the best dad and papaw, as well as a loving husband. His strong belief in a loving God, whose greatest gift to man is His unconditional grace, directed Ted’s life.

From the day his mother led him to accept Jesus at 10 years old, he relied on the Lord. His early death will leave a heartache with all his family and host of friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Douglas Winsett of Decatur; two sons, Teddy James Winsett (Joy) of Decatur, and Phillip Dustin Winsett (Kali) of Somerville; one daughter, Karyn McCormick (Marc) of Muscle Shoals; one brother, Phillip Winsett of Trinity; and five sisters, Margaret Ann Rhoads of Hartselle, Brenda Bradley of Hartselle, Lavenia Sue Cemino of Dayton, OH, Anji Montano of Prattville, and Mary Jo Donofrio of Dayton Ohio; eight grandchildren, Tyler McCormick (Cheryl), Nick McCormick, Mason McCormick, Sean Bragg (Carmen), Autumn Winsett, Harley Carter-McCormick, Allie Anders, and Abbey Winsett; and five great-grandchildren.
