Theresa Ann Quam, age 63, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Sanford Health Hospital on North Broadway in Fargo, ND. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with a time of gathering an hour prior. A visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.
Her ashes will be buried at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery in Detroit Lakes at a private family service. Theresa was born the oldest daughter of Arville and Ruth Thompson on March 12, 1955, in Detroit Lakes. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic School for eight years and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1973.
She went on to graduate from the Detroit Lakes Vocational and Technical School in 1994, where she earned her degree in small business management. In 1996, she graduated from the Fergus Falls Community College Criminal Justice Program. Theresa continued her education at Moorhead State University, where she her received bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and sociology.
Theresa then worked as the director of the Boys and Girls Club in Detroit Lakes from 1996-1998. She was also a guardian ad litem for Clay County from 1998-2003 and that was her most rewarding and heartbreaking job but she loved it. Theresa also delivered papers for the Fargo Forum for over 40 years in the surrounding rural areas and for various Detroit Lakes papers.
Similarly, she put in nearly 30 years working for Clark Oil and Roofing and for Grover-Lindberg Truck Stop between 1983 and 1996; where she made many friends across the country. Theresa is survived by her husband of 25 years, Gary Quam of Thief River Falls, MN; four children: Brandie Hanson of Detroit Lakes, MN; Clayton (Jennifer) Borah of Apple Valley, CA; John Stone of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Michael Stone of Detroit Lakes, MN; two step-children, Matthew Quam of Grygla, MN; and Brian (Tiffany) Quam of Anchorage, AK; her father, Arville (Rita) Thompson of Frazee, MN; 10 sisters: Kathleen (Mike) Anderson of Florida; Ruthy Thompson of Detroit Lakes, MN; Mary (Harlan) Hendrickson of Callaway, MN; Linda Thompson Rossbach of Detroit Lakes, MN; Susanne Thompson of Lake Elsinore, CA; Jennifer (Paul) Soyring of Callaway, MN; Amy (James) Vogt of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lori (Matt) Van Steenwyk of Wisconsin; and Anne (Chris) Brandt of Volga, SD; two brothers: Clifford (Gail) Thompson of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Aaron Thompson of Frazee, MN; five grandchildren: John, Emma, Blake, Kallie, and Kyler; and two step-grandchildren, Andrea and Wade. She is preceded in death by her twin daughters, mother, grandparents, and aunts.
