Theresa’s Obituary Theresa McDevitt, 90, of Harleysville, and formerly Collingdale PA. Passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5th, at 5:25 pm in Lansdale PA, surrounded by her children. She was the beloved wife of the late Patrick J. McDevitt, Sr. Theresa immigrated from Ireland, and arrived in Philadelphia in 1949.

Prior to her marriage, she worked at Bell Telephone in Philadelphia, and after raising her family served as a Home Health Care companion to sick and elderly people in need, many of whom became part of her extended family. She was devoted to the practice of her Roman Catholic faith. As an active parishioner at Corpus Christi, she consistently prepared weekly meals for distribution to the homebound in the community.

She felt so fufilled to be part of a devout Flame of Love prayer group, where the depth of their faith created special lifelong bonds. Her personal commitment to her faith compelled her to spend several hours a day in prayer. Because of her great love for the Blessed Mother, she faithfully said the Rosary several times a day.

Theresa instilled this call to serve in her 6 children from a young age, and her motherly nurturing was evident to the community. Her door was always open to those in need, and she loved feeding her children’s friends, and welcoming others into her home. She was an avid gardener who was passionate about her plants and flowers.

She loved color, and her gardens were consistently recognized as the nicest in the neighborhood, even called “Little Longwood”. She spent countless hours perfecting her gardens, and would often be found out amongst her posies late into the evenings. Born September 16, 1928, she was the daughter of Patrick and Annie Durkin, from the village of Glann, Charlestown, in Mayo, Ireland.

She is survived by Marianne Manfrey (Dr. Samuel), of Harleysville, PA, Patrick J. McDevitt, Jr. of Williamstown, NJ, Brian McDevitt (Elizabeth) of Chadds Ford, PA, Daniel McDevitt (Victoria), of West Grove, PA, and Eileen Teti (Joseph) of Milmont Park, PA. She is survived by 10 Grandchildren: Olivia, Brenna, Aidan, Declan, Colin, Kevin, Aurora, Ryan, Cheyenne, and Joseph. Her surviving siblings are James Durkin, of Charlestown, Ireland, and Eileen Reilly (Joseph) of Hurley, NY.

Also survived by devoted nieces and nephews from the Stenson & Reilly families. Pre-deceased by son Kevin McDevitt, another son, Baby McDevitt in infancy, and a Sister, Margaret Mary Durkin. Relatives and friends may attend her viewing on Saturday, May 11 after 9:00 a.m. in Corpus Christi Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, where her Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
