She was just a few days shy of her 76th birthday. Theresa “Old Nani” was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Spero; her father, Pete Serrone; her mother, Josephine Mesh; her sister, Mary Jo Spero-Groom; her brother, Frank Serrone; and one year ago, her baby son and the love of our lives, Nick Spero.

Theresa leaves behind her son, Mike Spero (Missy); her daughter, Elizabeth Spero-Gardner (Butch); her son, Mark Spero (Kathy); and daughter, Bobbie Jo Siller; her daughter-in-law, Qiana Spero; her sister Joann Roland; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Serrone. Theresa will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces , nephews, and many friends. Because of the incredible childhood we her children lived, she inherited many other family members that she loved deeply and who loved her like their own mama.

Our mom never had just us kids, she had so many more: Tommy Agrusa, Albert Robertson and his sister Mary, Louis Rivera, Brown Dude, Mark Ashley, Anthony Wells, Angela Freeman, Joe Brogoto, Luis Hernandez, and so many more. Our mother Theresa and her sister Mary Jo Serrone married brothers Mike and Nick Spero, therefore making their children double cousins. We were raised together like siblings, and over the last few years our cousins Antoinette Spero and Nancy Bruscato helped us tremendously with taking care of our mother.

She loved and came to rely on them as did we. Theresa was a strong and stubborn woman and though her mind was slowly deteriorating with Alzheimer’s, we never let a moment slip by without busting her chops and calling her out on all her BS. The laughs we had because of this will forever be in our minds and in our hearts.

We are especially thankful for having this last Christmas with her. We know that she is now with our little brother Nick and her big sister Mary Jo. There is no doubt that they will certainly keep her in line and take care of each other.

Rest in peace mom – maybe now we all can. Memorial Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, January 27, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home.
