Obituary for Mr. Thomas Edward Guest, Sr. Thomas Edward Guest, Sr., 93, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018, at his home in Oxford, MS. A memorial service and burial will be held Monday, September 17, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at College Hill Presbyterian Church (339 CR 102, Oxford, MS 38655). A reception will immediately follow, also at College Hill Presbyterian Church.
Bro. Gerald Shook will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
In Sumner, Cruger, and Greenwood, where he and his wife, Christine, lived and farmed, he was a faithful church leader and was very active in service to the community especially visiting the sick and ministering to the residents at local nursing homes. Through the years, he was involved in prison ministries and mission outreach. When not actively farming, he and his wife enjoyed traveling and camping, and over many years visited all 50 states.
Among his hobbies, he enjoyed bird hunting, gardening, and snow skiing. Above all, he loved water skiing and was dedicated to teaching countless others to ski also. Mr. Guest was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Christine Daniel Guest; his parents, James William Guest and Effie Ward Guest; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his four children: Tom Guest, Jr. (Margaret Pittman) and Jim Guest (Mary Catherine Mosley), both of Oxford, Brenda Guest Bridgers (Lee) of Greenwood, and Beth Guest Embry (Roy) of Madison. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren who adored their “Pappy”: Christin Guest Lawhead (Andy) and Margaret Dillon Guest Carroll (David), both of Oxford; Ann Clare Guest of Memphis; Olivia Guest King (J.W.) of Madison; Will Guest (Hayden); Trey Bridgers (Sarah Kathryn); Mary Beth Bridgers Moore (Tate), all of Oxford; Ally Embry, Anne Daniel Embry, and Rob Embry, all of Madison. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law: Clara Guest of Drew and Barbara Daniel McIntosh of Oxford.
During World War II, Thomas Guest, Sr., served in the Construction Battalion of the United States Navy on the Island of Guam. In honor of his service to our country, Coleman Funeral Home will fly the flag of the United States Navy on the day of the services.
