Obituary for Thomas Frederick Johnson Tom Johnson, 83, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Tom, a native of Evanston, Illinois, was born to his parents, Herbert and Katherine on October 23, 1934. He graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1953 and went on to attend the University of Illinois to study theater and began acting at Goodman Theatre before joining the United States Air Force in 1957 where he trained as a radiology specialist.

He settled down, married, and started a family in 1965 until work brought him to Atlanta in 1971. He spent 23 of his 29 years in Atlanta working at Northside Hospital as a radiology technician. In 2000, Tom’s work in Lithotripsy allowed him to move to Charlotte, NC, and soon after Fort Mill, SC, before finding his dream home on Lake Bowen in Inman, SC.

It was there where he hosted his family and friends and created some of his happiest memories. Tom loved hosting his children and grandchildren and seeing them learn how to water ski and knee board, in which gave him a great sense of joy. His unending sense of humor, smile, and laughter was contagious to all.

It was important to him that humor, even his classic “bad” jokes, remained a consistent part of his daily life. Family, friends, and love of laughter became the foundation of what he defined as a life well lived. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Katherine, and his sister, Marjorie Strandell.

Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Albertson (Bill) of Lilburn, GA, son, Tommy Johnson (Ali) of Ocean Springs, MS, daughter, Susie Ericksen (Chris) of Inman, SC, son, Ben Johnson (Helen) of Savannah, GA, and former spouse, Barbara Voornas. Tom was “Bunka” to his seven grandchildren, Robert Albertson, Olivia Johnson, Ben Ericksen, Dudley Johnson, Drew Johnson, Matthew Ericksen and Warner Johnson. The family will receive friends 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in the E. Gibson Davis Chapel of First Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life service will begin at 12:30 PM in the Chapel, conducted by The Rev. Seth Buckley and The Rev. Bob Neely.
