Thomas Jefferson Hitzemann, age 74, died October 29, 2018 at his residence in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mr. Hitzemann was born in Fort Wayne on July 10, 1944 to the late Rudolph and Luella (Harmeyer) Hitzemann. He married Sharon Marie Byrd in 1962 and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1962-1965.

Tom was employed with Zollner Piston as a quality control engineer for 31 years before retiring in 1997. He also owned and operated Tom’s Sharpening Service for five years and worked at Wick’s Lumber for a short time. Tom loved woodworking and was especially skilled in the scroll saw.

He enjoyed making projects for family and friends. Tom enjoyed coaching his daughter’s softball teams and was well liked by all the opposing teams because of his compassion, patience and kindness. He was a good provider, working two jobs for many years to make living comfortable for his wife, son and twin daughters.

He enjoyed traveling to places, such as, Niagara Falls, Florida and to many softball tournaments. Tom also enjoyed watching sports and spending time with family. Survivors include: Wife of 56 years, Sharon Hitzemann of Fort Wayne.

Son, Rick and Helene Hitzemann of Las Vegas, Nevada. Twin daughters, Robin and Charles Thompson and Renee Buettner of Fort Wayne. Six granddaughters: Ashley, Amber, Brittaney, Haley, Alexis, and Zoe.

Memorial services with military honors will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at North Highlands Church of Christ, 1414 Archer Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46808 with Rev. David Altman officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the memorial service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Woodburn Christian Children’s Home, 24902 Notestine Road, Woodburn, IN 46797. Arrangements entrusted to Northern Indiana Funeral Care of Fort Wayne.
