Obituary for Mr. Thomas Norbert Harris Big Stone Gap, VA Thomas “Tom” Harris, 80, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at Life Care Center of Gray, Tennessee, on Friday, November 16, 2018. Tom was born on May 3, 1938, in Dayton, Ohio. He was the son of the late Edward & Nellie Harris.

After college, he played minor league baseball and served in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He traveled all over the world selling tires and the family relocated often, living in several states throughout his career.

He was actively involved in coaching sports and was a church youth group leader. He was an avid golfer and loved Ohio State football. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Nellie Harris, and brother, William “Bill” Harris.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Harris; his sister, Patty Williamson (Dave) of Dayton, OH; his six children: Sheri Phaneuf of St. Louis, MO, Lori Kimberlin (Hubert) of Coeburn, VA, Stacie Terry (Lisa) of Leland, NC, Beth DeHaas of Hillsboro, OH, Nick Harris (Cindy) of Gray, TN, and Chris Harris (Sherry) of Gray, TN; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Big Stone Gap, VA, from 5-7 p.m. Catholic Mass services will be held following the visitation, with Fathers Tim Drake & Daniel Kelly officiating. Final interment will be private.
