Thomas “Tom” Jerome Westbrook, aged 71, passed peacefully at home on November 5, 2018. Tom was born at Emory University Hospital in Decatur, GA, on April 12, 1947, to his parents Samuel and Lillie Jo Westbrook. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1965.
Tom was accepted into the University of Georgia, joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and graduated with his BBA in accounting. Tom… Read More » was the proud father of Kelly and Amy, whose mother, Linda, they lost to cancer in 1991.
Judy Gwin stepped into their lives, along with her children Mary and Brett, and married Tom in 1993. They shared a happy life together for 25 years. Most recently, Tom and Judy spent time vacationing in Europe, and Tom just got back from a trip to Las Vegas.
Along with his love of travel, the family had a yearly trip planned for one of his favorite places, the beach. He loved the sand, sea, and sun! Tom enjoyed playing tennis, golf, baseball, and football, and when he wasn’t playing the games, he was watching them.
Tom was a huge Georgia Bulldogs fan, and thoroughly enjoyed cheering on his Alma Mater. How do you describe such a wonderful man? He was incredibly smart, although he couldn’t quite figure out how to be the handyman at home.
He was witty, sharp, and relentlessly funny, always upbeat and you could see the rays of the sun shining right through him. Possibly one of his best qualities was his dependability, quickly followed by his unwavering joy for life. Tom had a tendency to be impatient, but it helped him to be a wonderful CPA.
If you were a friend of Tom, you knew it because he gave you a nickname. Tom was affectionately called Tommy, Toppy, and granddaddy. Tom was a marvelous husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Jerome and Lillie Jo Westbrook. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Westbrook; his daughters, Kelly Robinson and Amy Carlile; his step-children, Mary Higbie and Brett Gillespie; his sister, Jan Dorris; his nephews, Greg Dorris and Grant Dorris; his 8 grandchildren: Sam and Madison Robinson; Neko and Wren Carlile; Christopher Higbie; Brittany, Corteney, and Brooklyn Gillespie; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Funeral services for Tom will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Following the funeral service, interment will be held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA. Online condolences may be left at asturner.com.
