Vance E. Horne, Jr., 82, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Silver Lake Health Care and Rehab. Center. in Staten Island, New York.

Vance was born and raised in Manhattan. He also lived in Brooklyn before settling in Port Richmond in 1990. He was a proud veteran who served honorably in the United States Airforce.

Vance was an Operations Manager with Israel Bonds Financial Institution in Manhattan for 35 years, When Vance retired, he was proud of the fact that he never took a sick day in his 35 years of service. Through his job, he enjoyed foreign travel, visiting Jerusalem, Israel and other foreign countries. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to jazz music, singing oldies and loved to dance.

He also loved the ponies, visiting OTB and the track. Vance was also an avid coin and stamp collector and had an array of jazz vinyl albums, which he collected. He was an alcohol connoisseur, and loved to have a ”fine beverage”.

He also had a sweet tooth, especially for chocolates, cookies and all sorts of candy. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who adored his family. He and his wife, Phyllis, were married 53 wonderful years.

They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on February 27th of this year. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis. Loving father of Carlton, Marcus and Dorcas Watler, Toni Grant and Erica Horne-Gamble.

Vance is also survived by his 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Funeral Home.
