Vera’s Obituary Vera Janet Nies, of Vero Beach, died Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. She was born to the late Edward and Vera Bell on February 21, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY. She went to schools in Brooklyn, and in Farmington, Maine after moving there in 1944.

She married the late Walter Nies, Jr. in 1952, and lived in Farmington, Me. , before moving to Vero Beach in 1954 where they built a home and raised four children. Janet and her late husband owned and operated the Downtown Supermarket until they retired.

She loved spending time with her family, special friend Susie, reading, crocheting and the summers in Maine with her husband and family. She loved and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the shining stars of her life.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Nies, Kathy Nies, and Sandra (James) Loudermilk of Vero Beach, and son, Barry (Carol) Nies of Fellsmere, Florida; grandchildren, Rebecca(Michael) Crosby, Amber Nies, Kelley(Aaron)Sunderlin and Katlyn Loudermilk; great-grandsons, Brayden Nies, Jeffrey and Bryson Sunderlin; sister, Carol(John)Ranger of Cumberland, Maine; several nieces and nephews; sister in laws, Loraine, Elinor, and Beverly. Janet was predeceased by her parents; husband of 57 years; infant daughter Cindy Janet Nies; brother, John O. Bell and sister, Mary Ann Bell. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 26th from 6-9PM at the Heritage Center.
