Vern H. Whitney, 77 of Echo Township, died May 21, 2019 at home. He was born March 3, 1942 in Flushing the son of Jesse and Florence (Ardill) Whitney. Vern was a hard worker and dedicated employee.

He worked at Dreftman Ranch in Bellaire for 25 years. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. He was a great builder and worked on many projects.

Surviving Vern is his wife Lyra “Peggy” (Casto) Whitney. Also surviving are his children Jesse (Patricia) Whitney of Echo Township and Christina (Dwayne) Shaw of Central Lake, grandchildren Espn, Angel and Evan Shaw of Central Lake, 4 sisters Hazel (Marvin) Grant, Christina (Richard) Skop, Carrie (Bill) Hover, and Vera (Joe) Harrington. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers Ray, Stuart, and Clayton Whitney, 2 sisters Martha Loree and Joyce Whitney, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, at 11 am at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Interment will follow in Dunsmore Cemetery. The family will received friends Tuesday, May 28, from 6 to 8 pm also at the funeral home.
