Vern Binder, better known as Johnny, 79, passed away on February 3rd, 2018 at his home in Arlington, Washington. He was the husband of Nancy Mashburn Binder. They shared 57 years of marriage together.

Born September 18, 1938 in Sunnyside, Utah, he was the natural son of Fame & Tressie Price and the adopted son of Vern and Lavinia Binder. He attended Saint Leo’s and Fawcett Elementary schools and Stewart Middle School in Tacoma, WA. After school he joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after 6 years of service as an E5.

He then worked in the silver mines in Idaho for a time before moving back to Tacoma to work for the Asarco smelter plant as a Slag Train driver. Later he worked at Lianga Pacific Lumber Mill where he retired at age 55. He was a hard-working man who took great pride in providing for his family.

Johnny loved his country and was very patriotic, he was known for his fantastic sense of humor and throwing big parties and bon fires at the family farm in Tacoma. He had a playful, affectionate, and fun-loving personality, enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren who all adored him, and had a way of making holidays magical for those he loved. He was always willing to help anyone in need and was generous to a fault.

Johnny was dearly loved by his family and friends and he will be greatly missed. Johnny is survived by his wife Nancy, son Michael Binder, and daughters Marcy Littrell and Shannon Holbrook. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christopher Binder, Jonathan “J.C.” Binder, Michael Binder Jr., Jessica Wilson, Johnny Binder, Kyrstie Binder, Erin Littrell, Chris Littrell, Lacey Holbrook, and Austin Miller, and great-grandchildren Dylan Wortinger, Lillyan Wortinger, Ember Binder, Oliver Binder, Maggie Wilson, and Aieslynn Wilson.

He has one surviving brother, Bud Price and one sister, Betty Eatough, both residing in Utah. He was predeceased by son Vern Binder Jr., infant daughter Susan Binder, grandson Joshua Binder, brother Darrel Price, and sister LaRue Remington. The memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Edline-Yahn Mortuary, 27221 156th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98042.

The viewing will be held from 10:00am until time of service. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA immediately following the memorial service. A potluck reception will be held at Edline-Yahn Mortuary immediately following interment.
