Verna’s Obituary Verna F. Brown, a Garden County resident for 99 years passed away Saturday evening, November 17, 2018 at the Regional West Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh after a short stay. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with Sister Anne Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Oshkosh City Cemetery.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorials in Verna’s name can be made to Regional West Garden County Foundation- Nursing Home or to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Oshkosh is serving the Brown Family.

Verna Freda Brown was born November 5, 1919 near Antelope Valley, Oshkosh to Thomas Chris and Bertha Elizabeth (Kiley) Thomsen. Verna spent all of her life in the Oshkosh area. She attended Plummer School north of Oshkosh and Garden County High School.

Verna was united in marriage to Vern Brown on November 5, 1945. They had three children; Marvin, Janice, and Julia. They spent their early years farming near Lisco.

In 1948, they moved to Oshkosh. Verna worked various jobs before working in the County Clerk’s Office for approximately 34 years, serving as deputy county clerk. Throughout her life, Verna was active at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and several clubs.

She loved working in her yard and flower garden. Her iris bed was a beautiful sight every spring. She also loved making hand quilted quilts.

She was devoted to her family. Verna is survived by her children, Marvin and wife, Lynette Brown of Gering, Janice and husband, Keith Dorman of Clovis, New Mexico, and Julia and husband, Rich Miller of Alliance; 7 grandchildren, DeAnna and husband, Ted Jenkins of Gering, Randy and wife, Beth Brown of Kearney, Todd Brown and fiancé, Teresa Toedtli of Mitchell, Keith Dorman Jr. and wife, Gale of Clovis, Kevin and wife, Lisa Dorman of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Lisa and husband, Jack Holly of Phoenix, Arizona, and Stacey and husband, Dave Petrachek of Alliance; 15 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, in 1968, her parents, Bertha and Tom, and a brother, Ralph.
