Verna C. Wilke, 95, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at the St. William’s Living Center in Parkers Prairie. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Kirk Lee officiating.

Music will be provided by organist, Maureen Diedrich. Interment will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Verna Clara Hulda Grothen was born to Otto and Clara (Brockopp) Grothen on July 14, 1923 and was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie Township. She was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Miltona. Verna married Delmer Wilke on December 4, 1946 at her home church.

Verna worked outside the home for 32 years, being employed by Madson’s Grocery; Hallin’s Drug Store and Folsom Drug Store, all located in Parkers Prairie. The couple farmed in Eastern township all of their lives until moving to St. William’s Living Center in July of 2014. Verna was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie.

Verna was a very good cook and loved to bake; especially cookies which she always seemed to have on hand. She is proceeded in death by her husband Delmer; parents; sisters, Norma (Arthur) Uhde, Evelyn (Lancelot) Krueger, and Bernice (Harold) Diedrich; brother, Melvin Grothen; brother-in-law, Richard White; niece, Terry (Diedrich) Wussow; and nephew, Ronald Diedrich, Jimmy Grothen, Glen White, and Gary Uhde. Verna is survived by her sister, Carol White; brothers, Gilbert (Ethel) Grothen and Kenneth (Ardith) Grothen; and many nieces and nephews Serving as casket bearers are Michael Diedrich, George White, Jeff Vosburgh, Keith Wilke, Terry Carlson and Tim Hollatz.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church & Hospice of Douglas County.
