Verna’s Obituary Verna Mae Goff was born April 28, 1928 to Francis Mae (Bonsall) and Earl Wilby Myers. She attended Dodge City High School and began her professional life working at the Pay Day Grocery in her teens and then worked at Mullin’s Furniture. She married Hershel Fleetwood and had her daughter Karen Elaine Fleetwood.

Verna also worked at United Telephone as a billing clerk and secretary. While at United, she met Marshall and they eventually married. Her family grew with their marriage.

Upon retirement, they moved to Grove, Oklahoma on Grand Lake where they volunteered throughout the community, spent weekends dancing with friends at the Moose Lodge and traveled the country in their motor home. In their later years, they returned to Dodge City to be closer to their family. Verna cared for Marshall through his fight with Alzheimer’s and remained an active community member.

She spent time with friends at the Dodge City Senior Center and taught a weekly line dancing class. She also babysat her great-grandchildren and enjoyed watching reruns of Westerns on television. She maintained her sharp intellect and quick wit until the very end.

She will be missed and always loved. Verna was preceded in death by her parents and Hershel Fleetwood and Marshall Goff. She is survived by her Daughter and Son-in-law, Verne and Karen Pankratz, their son Josh and his wife Azure Pankratz and her great grandchildren Reid and Ethan and granddaughter Mandy; her stepson Clyde Goff and his wife Nancy, their son Michael and his children Jaxon and Keaton, their daughter Shari and husband Dave Ellis and great grandchildren Kailey and her husband Tanyr Abbey, Kyle Roberts and Kailey Roberts.

Her step daughter Freda and husband Jim Monseu and their son David and his wife Kirsten and great grandchildren, June and Juliet and Bryan and his wife Cheyenne and great grandchildren Joseph and Isabella. The family requests donations to the Dodge City Senior Center in lieu of flowers. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 16 at 11:00 AM at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with Mr. Clyde Goff and Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding.

There will be a book signing on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Swaim Funeral Chapel from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
