Vinnie Marcella Smith, 77, of Alvin passed away on December 11, 2018. She graduated from Holy Cross Central School of Nursing (Indiana) in 1963 and immediately began her career in Nursing. It was more than a job to her and she remained passionate about Nursing – citing it as one of her greatest joys and accomplishments.

Although she lived in a variety of cities and many states, San Antonio was always home to her. It remained a place of cherished memories and beloved friends who offered her much comfort and a familiar place to prop her feet. A woman with a big heart and a great sense of humor – those who knew her well were never shocked when she pulled her cell phone from her bra or her keys – or even money .

. . It functioned much like Mary Poppins magical carpet bag – full of some item or other that Vinnie might need but refused to carry in her purse.

Found amongst her earthly treasures were: notes from friends, family recipes, some well-worn romance and mystery novels, and loads of cat memorabilia. Her kind heart, generous nature and unyielding spirit will be greatly missed. The world may keep going, but for those who knew her, their world moves a little slower.

Vinnie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister, Naomi Blaylock; and her brothers, George and Walter Smith. Vinnie was often heard to say: “Don’t mourn me with a funeral, but instead celebrate my life with a party”.

So in keeping with her wishes no funeral service will be held. As soon as can be arranged after the first of the year – in her beloved city of San Antonio – instead we shall gather in celebration. So we ask at this time in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Parkinson’s Foundation in memory of Vinnie and in honor of her mother.
